Welcome

Welcome to the website of Sonian British Explorer Scouts, delivering British Scouting in the centre of Belgium to young people aged 14 to 18 and into adulthood.

Explorer Scouting provides a flexible, active and inclusive Scouting programme with an emphasis on personal development, achieving Top Awards in Scouting, making a bigger impact in our communities and adventure. Our vision is to prepare more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme.

The Explorer Scout section follows on from the Scout section, and is in turn followed by Scout Network. Explorer Scouts meet as a Unit, and are organised and run at the District level. However, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to participate in working with local Scout Groups. The section also has a Young Leader programme which provides support for the younger sections of Scout Groups.

As a Duke of Edinburgh's Independent Award Centre, Sonian Explorers also offer and help our members to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE IA) is an awards programme which gives young people the chance to make friends, have fun and build confidence in an empowering, exciting and non-competitive learning environment. It's delivered by a number of licensed providers across the world, Scouts being one of the biggest.

Sonian British Explorer Scouts extends its deepest condolences on the death of our patron, monarch and sovereign - Queen Elizabeth II. As we remember Her Majesty, we give thanks that she has been Patron of The Scout Association since she came to the throne 70 years ago. We also recall with gratitude support she has extended to Scouting throughout her long reign. Most especially we remember her strong commitment to duty and service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Our sympathy and prayers are extended to the entire Royal family. The loss of such a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother will be deeply felt.
